Do you live in the now? Or are you forever living in the past? Looking back.
In Isaiah 43:24, God commands us not to remember the former things, nor to consider the things of old.
One of Satan's biggest traps is to get Christians to live in the past, in their sin and unworthiness. A person who lives in the state of 'living in the past',can not be used by God in the present. If you have your mind on what has happened even 15 minutes ago, you are living in the past.
A person who wants to overcome must learn to put the past behind him or herself. Consider what Paul states in Phillipians 3:13,14; "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, (14) I press on toward the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Are you pressing on or are you living in the past?
Consider what happened to Lot's wife in Gen 19:26. God had commanded them to flee to the mountain, a symbol of Christ, and not to look back.
If we as Christians begin to live our lives in the past, than it will only be a matter of time until we fall.
The past cannot be changed, therefore wisdom would dictate that we walk in the things that we can change, the present. Satan knows that if you are living in the past, than you will never change the things you can.
An overcomer gains victory over each area of his shortcomings as he deals with each of them. It should be readily apparent to you, why you must live in the present.
